Check with your school for student discounts on lenovo, they often have great deals available. Apple also has student deals.

I am a big fan of dell laptops. I am already on my third one with the other two still running strong.

lenovo makes the thinkpads, and dell laptops are among the least reliable on the market.

Thinkpads are amazing. Certain models even have built-in roll cages (maybe even all of them, haven't paid much attention since I'm out of the market now). Second choice is HP business line. Excellent, excellent laptops. Thinkpads have the better keyboard.

i would go with a thinkpad. personally, i don't trust lenovo as much now that it's built by china. however, if you can pick up a NIB t40,41,42p,43, that would be very nice. it's not dual core, but they're solidly built and getting pretty cheap nowadays.

Another vote for Apple. I just picked up a Macbook Pro and continue to be impressed with it. It operates beautifully, but also is just such a joy to use.
