LCD-2 sound, less weight?

You can keep the LCD-2s AND reduce their weight dramatically:

P.S. You may need multiple balloons, but don't overdo it (especially if you're outside!)

Have you ever considered custom IEMs, such as JHs, earsonics, or westones?

Any weight you shave off certainly can't hurt.  Being soft and flexible instead of stiff will help a lot too.

Just dont think the 650s are in the same solar system as the LCDs

i agree they're not. i never said they where. the OP wanted an alternative to the LCD-2. and well, ithink the HD 650 is as close as you're gonna get to the LCD-2. their sound signature is very similar. the hd 650s just have more midrange coloration and aren't as good as the LCD-2 but they're also a 1/3rd of the price.

I think it is apples and oranges for sure...I think the LCD-2 is in a class of its own, the HC650 is good, but I NEVER use them anymore!

I just keep them around because I had a balanced cable made for them but they just sit....

Paulybatz, I am curious as to what amp your are using to drive your
Audeze and Sens 650's.  One important variable not mentioned here is
system matching, both amp and front end.  The Naim Headline headphone
amp with a Teddycap mkiii power supply combined with the Senns 650 and
a cardas cable is an amazing combo.  The sound is musically addictive with
deeply layered sound stage.  With this combo I find myself listening to song
after song in there entirety.  With my early impression of the LCD 2, I do not
feel that it is blowing the 650 away.  I am getting more air behind vocals with
the 650.  However, I do need more time to fully compare the two.  In addition,
i do not have an after market cable for my LCD's.

As for tube gear, I used to own the Cary 300B SEI.  When combined with the
650 it did not match.  Way too boring.  I get the feeling the LCD's prefer tubes
at this point.

I am a huge Ibasso fan, I dont think you NEED TUBES at all, I am solid state all the way and Im using a P4 for my LCD-2 (fed by the D7 DAC)
and
the PB2 for my HD650 balanced, the HD 650 to me only sound good balanced, or should I say sound best...

Either well-modded T50RPs, they can still weigh less than LCD-2s, or HD650s. IMO, that's about it, really. The whole reason I built my T50s was to get LCD-2 style sound for a fraction of the price, and it worked.

The 650 sound very similar to the 400i's. The LCD-2's are freaking heavy though. I tried them out in a Hi-Fi store today and my neck started to hurt after 10 minutes. Major flaw with these headphones that nobody mentions when they recomend them.
