Luxury & Precision (LP) W4, Successor to Their Popular W1/W2 USB Dongle is Here!

Did a quick RMAA test, W4 performed quite well. No significant difference compared to W2 on most part, though my tools could be at their measurement limit to show any difference that small. Output impedance are 1.55 ohm for 3.5mm output and 3.14 ohm for 4.4mm output. Though not so high to be any real concern, it is higher than expected.

I would love to see Lotoo releasing a new dongle. Anyway is great that more companies are working hard to improve them.
Who would have thought it will be possible couple of years ago, to have over 400 mW@32 ohm power output from a usb dongle.
Progress is relative. Creative sxfi amp dongle, released in 2019, can do 370mw @ 32ohm through its single-ended output. It uses the same akm chip as lotoo s1 and s2.

The actual measured max output (32 ohm, ~1% distortion) of SXFi is 121mW. I assumed the 370mW number is under 10% distortion, which is kinda unbearably bad SQ for most human with normal hearing.

The power draw benefit seems quite meaningful for anyone who has experienced this particular issue. I haven’t, but that is probably more about the amount of time I keep the dongle attached to my phone in any single session, maybe being less than other users.

You mention that the W4 powers more difficult to drive IEMs with conviction… which IEMs do you find difficult to drive with other dongles, and in particular with respect to the W1 and W2?

The FitEar DC and DC Ti. I have never used the W1. :) Only the W2. The W2 has no real issues but perhaps does not drive them as well as the FitEars. I found the Lotoo S1 not particularly convincing with these two IEMs.

The latest firmware for W4 is : 1.0.0.8 right?
Just got mine couple of hours ago. From the start I can tell it is more refined then W2, with a even better build quality and I like the new design and the volume knob is great and operation is very easy.
I still have to go up 8-9 volume steps to achieve same volume as with W2, but I knew this it will be the case for the single end.
Very early to say about the sound but all is great, I would say that there been an improvement in the sound by at least 7%, from the previous model.
The instrument separation is done better now and the bass can go deeper and I can hear more details in the music. And the soundstage is slightly wider then before.
I am yet to try the 4.4 mm balanced output but so far I am impressed.
More critical listening needed to get to know the unit better.
I am glad I stayed with L&P and I like their sound signature.

Oh really? In my experience, W2 is only the dongle that does not hiss with the Trio 5.5Ohms. I have seen that you are using M11 pro and QP1R too, do they hiss with U18t?
QP1R does hiss. M11 Pro does not. And I can’t detect any hiss with the W2 (at least with the iPhone today). Go figure. Everything’s well again. I’ll delete my original question so I don’t mislead people.

That’s very high OI. It would definitely mess up IEM like the Andromeda

For sensitive IEM users, W2 is the best choice for a dongle, black background is a big plus for those

Yep, but it is also ridiculous for IEM maker to make IEM that is in / around the 10 ohm range to begin with.

Are you on the latest firmware 1.0.0.8? All the dad issues have been solved according to L&P. I will try later with a dsd file.
