Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Oh no! My dream of having Lyrius and Asgardius shattered LOLLLL. (Though I guess Asgardius would just be Jot 2..... maybe......????)

I guess one can still dream about Asgard+.

Jokes aside, looking forward to try the Midgard!
We have Schiitius ... :)

Order placed for Midgard. I need another amp like I need another herniated disc, but Halo has me super curious.

@Jason Stoddard Is the Halo sound on the XLR output affected by the input type? In other words, RCA vs XLR input in regards to Halo?
Balanced inputs are converted to single-ended, so if you want to go straight in, RCA is the way to go.

FWIW, both inputs measure the same. But that and $4 gets you a coffee.

Just to reconfirm. Using a 4V balanced output from a DAC into the Midgard will not result in the usual 6dB of gain at the headphone output, correct?

@mjstealey Do the rubber surfaces mark wood? I'm thinking of giving my centre speaker a bit of a lift. I'm currently using the patented @bcowen cardboard isolation method...

.
Ohh wow, that looks like an OLD Dynaudio center unless it's a DIY. Going by the tweeter it's got to be from the 90's maybe early 00's.

6dB above a 2V SE input, yes--as you'd expect from 4V vs 2V.

This is the cable I need to get for the Pro-ject X8 to use it with the balanced input to the Skoll:

Same cable would be used with all balanced Pro-jects. Pro-ject seems to have balanced models down to $799 now according to their USA website.
Blue Jeans Cables offers the same type cable at a reasonable price. Their cables are first rate, they use quality connectors and wire from Belden, Neutric, etc.

OK, so using a 4V balanced output from a DAC will still result in the usual extra 6dB of gain, but it will not stay balanced internally since the amp has a SE circuit topolgy.

Exactly

Would it be possible to use Halo on a speaker amp in some fashion?
Like I mentioned in the chapter, it's complicated. But if anything is going to show a difference in measured THD at the driver, it'll be a big floppy speaker, especially a ported one. Future is still undetermined at this point.

In the realm of headphone amps, consider that Halo is not necessarily the be-all or end-all, either...what is best? Mixed-mode motion feedback? Balanced differential output? No feedback? None of the above? All of the above? Not sure yet. For me, the fun is finding out what works best where.

For everyone who's confused, let's make it real simple:

Midgard is the highest-power, best-measuring discrete SE amp we've ever made...and it's made in Texas and sells for $219.

Aaaaaand it has Halo.

Thanks. I was aware of that change. The IRS ruling affects all services, not just PP. That article is from 2021 and the IRS defered it for a while. I believe it comes into effect this tax year.

Cheers
Yes, that's what I understand, it was deferred.

Ohhhh wow THREE new chapters!!!
Awesome work Schitt team!
I've been waiting for an upgraded Schiit phono pre and am looking forward to being able to order a Skoll!
I'm on my 3rd HEL (Had OG, then 2, now 2E) I don't know if they've died because they are on 24/7 or what. I'd be happy if the current one lives forever, but it's nice to know it's got an extended warranty if it dies in under a year like the others have. Schiit has always taken care of them though, so I'm not worried.

Thank you for the tip. Will check it out. I have had very good experiences with Blue Jeans cables. Great build and I really can't fault the sound.

If the Roman mixing names are going away, does that mean we can expect an update to the Lokius? Personally, I'm waiting on the drop of the 5 channel amplifier (I could go for the 5 channel Emotiva but would like to keep everything Schiit) opposite Rekr and Gjallahorn to pair with Syn.
