My views re my Q701 and HD650 are the exact opposite, I try to get to like theQ701, but when I swap to HD650 it's like the music starts. Like having a rich espresso after some bitter instant.

Q701 is more like plain black coffee and the HD-650 is that same coffee with a ton of cream and sugar dumped on top of it.
I love the HD-650, but it makes all my music seem almost too good. Even the harsh and poor quality tracks. I could care less though.
Oh and I do love the HD-650. I can't say it's radically changing any of my music. It's very musical.

Actually, Q701 is more like good coffee with just a small amount of sugar. Definitely not instant

FYI I love the Q701 too. It all depends on preferences.

^^ I never heard the veil that everyone talks about. It could be that there was a silent revision that changed the veil. Or it may be that I just am sensitive to treble.

All I can say for sure is that I love the 650 as it is.

Why don't we cut to the chase here ..... I also felt the HD650 never fulfilled me .... always felt that half the material was missing (the highs), and there are many who feel that way...... recommend the HD600 for those folks.  Having said that, this is clearly a matter of personal preference and it is undeniable that there are legions of HD650 admirers.

I enjoy following this thread being a current HD600 owner and former HD650 owner, but this being the HD650 Appreciation Thread, one does have to wonder if it is baiting to post derogatory posts here.

Szoze, may I suggest you try posting your feelings regarding the HD650 in the HD600 Appreciation Thread, where you might find more sympathetic reaction.

Viva la difference!

Naw, It's not any material missing what so ever, none at all.  It's just presented different.  Sennheiser really hit the ball out the park with the 600/650s.  They hit both sides of the fence with these two.  As you can see this thread is hugh and filled with people who love the 650s, as is the 600 thread.  With the 650s I hear all the same notes, tunes, subtleties and material in the highs that you hear.  Just smoother and more laid back (IMO not recessed but laid back).  The 600s is more clear, not as laid back if you will.  Just a different presentation.

Haven't got much 650 time recently with a pretty new LCD-2 rev.2.  That being said, I don't have any plans of selling my Senns.  They will always have a place n my lineup!  Just wanted to spread the love...

Don't the 650's just feel like heaven on your face when you switch to them from the LCD2?
Thats the only thing i miss after making the same switch recently
and cant get myself to sell them either!

I agree they aren't for everyone, but if you like the laid back sound sig and some nicely present bass, man they are good for their going rate on the classifieds
Really i couldn't recommend a headphone more for someone just starting out in this hobby, if its in their price range that is

if your hd650 lacks the treble you desire I suggest EQ it works like a charm.

I hear people say this a lot but they never give any tips on what exactly to eq. I dont have much experience EQing treble so I would be lost as to what I should boost :/

I'm honestly not much of an EQ'er either, but I always hear to EQ down not up. So following that theory you'd want to take the mids and bass down a touch if you wanted to hear the treble better.

The weight is nice, but I think I could go for lambskin pads on my 650.

I was pretty sure I'd sell my HD650s after getting my LCD-2, but couldn't quite bring myself to do it. I have them at work now, along with a Magni/Modi stack. What a nice perk to have at work. I don't think the noise bleed from open cans is bothering anyone, might as well take advantage of my office. The HD650s are feather-light, but mine have more clamping pressure than my LCD-2.

Barry S,

How is the Magni/Modi stack working with the 650's?
