Mine sounds lovely with EQ, not sharp at all after removing the spikes.

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

I run my system flat. No EQ or any other sound altering process. Even when running JRiver Media Center from my PC, there is no processing done. The phones simply push out what the amp is doing. And because my amp is on the warm side, spikes are well controlled unless the material itself is spikey.Mine sounds lovely with EQ, not sharp at all after removing the spikes.

This is a freeze out HP, good enough to knock out most competition, just short enough to keep you looking. then freezes out that hp.

About details of hd800s.
Compare to my Kaldas RR1 e.stat hp plugged to Stax 007Tii, 800s driven by hdvd800 sounds less real/true detail. It is kind of treble effective than real detail, organic vocal.
Not to be artificial but less real in comparision. I like 800s bass than that of RR1 because of same detail with touch of lower frequency

Try running the hd800 on a better amp. The senn amp does something super strange to the treble. With my icon audio amp the treble details sound naturally organic, and more resolving than my kaldas rr1 run off an srx plus (which is a better amp then the 007tii). I find the bass more satisfying on the rr1 for rock and pop, but for jazz or classical the bass of the hd800s is superior because of the refined texture.About details of hd800s.

People strangely equate "better" with "more money"

In fact both the amps I mentioned as better, cost less new at the time I bought them then the amps bought new that the other guy was using. In any case trying something doesn't equate to buying something. At least not in my limited experience.People strangely equate "better" with "more money"
Yes, you effectively did....Did i say anything about buying a better amp?

For what it's worth, I think the HD800S works extremely well with the HDVD800 (as it does in my view also with the HDV820). In fact, I think it's one of the best combinations out there for classical music at least. I have a slight preference for the Moon 430HA, which also has an excellent crossfeed circuit. But I think these are among those amps which allow the HD800S to work as it was designed to work.
