Sennheiser Q&A: HDV 820 Digital Amplifier
Sep 9, 2017 at 9:48 PM Post #16 of 173
I totally agree. The DAC chip detail is crucial as well as the power output.
I'm on the fence of ordering one. But without knowing the details, I cannot justify the expense.
Just to clarify my previous post:
Sennheiser website says "The heart of the new HDV 820 is a formidable ESS SABRE32 DAC".
However, SABRE32 family has four different series as follows:

PRO Series
ES9038PRO, ES9028PRO, ES9026PRO

Reference
SABRE9018AQ2M, ES9018K2M, ES9018, ES9012, ES9008

Ultra
ES9016K2M, ES9016

Premier
ES9010K2M, SABRE9006A, ES9023

Please clarify which chip(s) HDV820 has.
I hope HDV820 has dual ES9038PRO configuration.

In the United States, the price comes to $2,399.95 direct from Sennheiser (free shipping, tax where applicable), and from our partner vendors.

Why is it so much more expensive in Canada?
also,
When you plug the headphones in does it mute the outputs?

Hmm... So it's not PRO line... Any info about single or double DAC configuration?

Still anxiously waiting the updates!!
Just to clarify my questions:
According to Japanese website “Phil Web”, HDV820 usss ES9018S. Is this different from the old 9018 chip?
Does it have 9018S in single or dual configuration?

The previous model - HDVD 800 - had a 24/192 Burr-Brown DAC built in and a symmetrical signal processing from input to output for both digital and analog Inputs.
