I’ve got #457 (bass-light) for 1.5 years now and just bought bass-heavy #1182 (on their way).  I wonder what is the highest #____  of R10 ever on head-fi (or elsewhere)?  Just curious how many R10 where actually produced – 1200, 1300 or 2000?
Also to my best knowledge, all R10 from #1 to #200 are bass-light, all starting #1000 are bass heavy, in between – may be either/or.  Right?  And may be some bass-light R10 are lighter than the others (bass-light vs bass - extra light) - ??

I just happened into this thread and saw your picture. Since I own 2 of the 3 headphones pictured here, and have always lusted after the R10's would you be able to tell me a little about how they compare to these - especially the cd3000's which I still think are a fantastically good headphone today?

Thanks!

CD3000 vs R10 (bass-light) differ a lot.  It was discussed many times on head-fi.  CD3000 are still very good headphones, especially for the money.  They are a bit bright on the mids, the scene is a bit too separated for left and right (these is a small gap in the middle).  The sound signature of CD3000 is a bit too “joyful” which is not always good, especially for the music not associated with “joyfulness”))  R10 bass-light sound rather differently, don’t have the problems above, the mids are really great, imo the bass is lacking.  The mids of R10 are closer (or even better) to best e-stats which I personally prefer over the dynamics and planars.  My R10 bass-heavy are still waiting for me to pick them up in US (I don’t trust the Russian post) after I have them I will be able to compare.  Some people say that R10 bass-heavy are closer to CD3000 (compared to R10 bass-light) but advanced in any possible way.  D7000 are very much different from both.  The biggest issues for me with D7000 are rather low resolution (especially compared with the two above), lack of bass articulation, lack of few other things which I like in top e-stats.  The reason the three of them are on one picture – just to give the idea of the size for those who never seen R10 "in person".

Thanks for that. Your observations about the CD3000 and the D7000 fairly well match my own. I had a couple of years where I was rather enamored with the sound of the Denon's but since getting the HD800's I've come back around to the Sony's and realized how good they are - especially considering the price they sold for! Now that I'm listening to the D7000 more critically and on better gear I can see that they are not on the same level and are the most likely candidate to be sold or traded at the moment.

Unfortunately the R10's are not likely to make it into my hands any time soon! I am very hopeful that Sony makes another true flagship someday though.

I’ve got the bass-light version #0457 for almost 2 years now, and recently have also got the bass-heavy #1182.  The bass-light are from 1989 production, the bass-heavy were made in 2004.  Both sound great!  I like the estats’ sound (have got the Orpheus set, the Omegas, etc.) but R10 are really great sounding headphones, from the same league as HE90 and SR-Omega.  The original ear pads of R10 were not comfortable enough for me (my head and ears are rather big).  I have tried few options and finally have chosen the “deluxe” ear pads from Audeze – soft, comfortable and adding just a bit more bass (which is good for both R10 – to my ears).  On the picture the bass-light have the non-leather suede ear pads and the bass-heavy have the leather ones.

The previous pair went for a crazy Y751,000. I've been tracking this to see how much it'll go up in the last few extendable minutes.

You will like the CD3000 a whole lot better once you replace the stock cable with a high quality copper cable then run them balanced.  I have both the R10 and CD3000 and after the cable upgraded the CD3000 narrow the gap considerably.  Still the R10 in stock form is better in all account beside the bass output.  Just like the R10, the CD3000 is overjoy once driven with a good balanced amplification.  Surprisingly, it also work very well out of my Sony PHA-3.

Just bought 2 pairs of R10.

But on one pair would like to replace pads. Ready to buy, if someone have original replacement pads. Price not matter.

Will be very appreciate.

Are you from Moscow?  I have new R10 ear pads but not sure if I want to sell them.  I have two R10s - bass-light and bass-heavy.  Let's keep it touch!  Sent to you a PM.

one of the pics in the listing is connected to an old audiogon ad. search google pics. will see.

Good catch.  Could this be the same seller or a scam?
