AudioHipster just received the HD-662F and they are awesome right out of the box, excellent isolation & clarity & bass is right on. Being closed~ear the pads are thicker and hug your ears tighter...(perfect fit no adjustments needed) and give's accrete bass. these will be are #1 monitoring cans for recording in the studio.  There's lots of hype for the cool design of the HD-668B and it is a nice smooth set of cans. but for monitor mixing as an engineer the HD-681 have a Low end depth and range I have not found in the 668, 7506, K240 or any other cans studio worthy cans we have tried. Last October I bought my first set of HD-681 before I became a dealer to help keep tape rolling in our studio... and it takes a while to bring these cans to life... but they are our #1 headphone for critical listening. and the best bang for any buck. I think they need a warning label: "this product may expose music for how it really sounds" you can hear the bandwidth like no other...  In closing back to the HD-662F for the money they are the best Closed Ear Headphones amazing sound, and they can double for isolation muffs.  AudioHipster Recording Services Approved.  Doyen

The more i use the HD-662F the more i like them... these are the best cans i have found for tracking, the natural balance makes it easy to hear detail and the bass and guitar can stand right next to the drummer and track without complaints, i have stopped using (7506, Can't hear the bass) and k240 and HD-669 in the studio and exclusive track with HD662F and for open cans the HD-681... every musician can hear with these cans. would love to have a open version of the HD-662F it is one of the best cans if not the best i have had the privilege of listing too... natural... ( perfect balance... or as close as you can get. )

Really? I always found the 681/662 series to be far less disciplined in the low to midrange than the 668/669 series. The 669 at times sounds a bit thin and closed in (and by association, boring), but always felt technically superior to the 662. I haven't listened to the F version personally, but the 668/669 driver always felt like a better driver than the one on the 662/681 (I've listened to every single version of the 681, and own the 668)

Didn't hear them yet myself, but saw them at thomann last week for the first time. The design is clearly from DT770, which means they could be isolating pretty well.
 
My favorite Superlux until now is a modded HD681.

I received my pair today from Thomann.de and yes, they are good headphones. 
 
My first impression is that their general tone is quite close to HD 668B - neutral. They have more bass extension and it seems to be tight too (comparable to HD668B, which is very tight in my book). They are also airy for closed cans.
 
Comfort isn't as good as 668B with K-240 pads, but that was to be expected. My ears get more sweaty with them than m50. The metal headband can make annoying sound when it interacts with the plastic part of the band and starts to vibrate.

Thanks for the insight... the HD-662F at first seems mid range focused and is not where close to the 681 that i find to be bright like the 7506 but major bass, and the HD-669 is a dark sultry can... and the HD-668B is a really nice can with a good head amp, but bass is light compared to the 662F & 661.  the 662F just cuts it in the studio musicians can hear better with this headphone... and sounds the most natural...    What 681 version did you like the best?

The only good thing about the HD660 is the fact that you can use some parts to repair a Beyerdynamic.

yes the 660 is a nice sounding can, use to use them in the studio, ( they are a older Tenlux model with 40MM drivers ) they did not fit tight so always had to push the cans to my ears...  the HD-662F sounds better and gets better isolation. and hugs your ears... but the HD-660 is a good can... sold some to Jonathan Scales engineer some time back & they were tracking with them ... so i told them i would send a couple pairs of 662F...

actually, have you heard all three of the 662s? The F, the B and just the plain 662? I find the F still slightly V-shaped in its sound. I was wondering if you can tell me which one is the most mid-centric among the three

Yes. Very nice with guitar, with nice warm bass. I found HD668B smoother, the 662 series are rather grainy, but those grain in treble really make guitar on rock musics shine.

Oh really? thanks! so would you recommend the 662f over 668b for metal music? i mainly listen to metalcore, djent, deathcore, hardcore.. how about the 661s? are they any good? Why are they more expensive than the other 2 cans?

yes, I would take 662F over 668b for metal music. HD668b is too smooth for rock to me, 662f spike/grain make guitar bit more. Pricier alternative is HD660 (review here). Never heard 661s so I can't comment on them. Headfonia review of 661 is here. Take it with grain and salt because everyone hear differently.

The 660 are not portable? do you have the akg k518le? i heard its good for metal too..though it has comfort issues..
