K240s + PA2 would be my suggestion.
Stay away from V600 and V700 ... even thpough rappers ALWAYS love those things in the studio.

IMHO MDRV6 (semi-open IMHO) would work well too... and you get the added bonus of "OOh-Aaah" from your rapper friends since a lot of MTV rappers wear those.

yes its a high current amp for low impedence cans.
Yes K240s-55 is very bass heavy IMHO, but theres more to it than just that. great can all around. Even MORE bass amped IMHO.

I've just removed eleven unrelated and offensive posts. Keep this thread on topic. No more thread crapping and watch your language as well.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Were people actually bashing rap or the thread starter for listening to rap? How very un-Head-Fi...

I don't have first hand experience, but I've heard nothing but good things about the DT 770s, AKG K 240s and I assume the DT 990s are quite good too. Any particular reason why you want it to be open? In the case of sound quality, I believe the DT 770 came first, the DT 990 later. Since they were engineered to be closed, the open ones may not sound as good.

I can't in good conscience recommend any Grado. It sounds like you would like the subwoofer bass, and none but the PS-1 really get as low as the DT770. If you want the scratchtastic wizardry of the Beastie Boys ripping up "3 MCs & 1DJ" with Mixmaster Mike, then a Grado would be up your alley, like the MS-2.

Well then, there you have it, first hand experience. Sounds like DT 990s fit the bill.

Oh, I also imagine you're going to need an amp. I wonder how a MINT or even a simple CMoy would do the job? Probably would work well enough to crank out the bass.
