Looks like the MT8 is the replacement of my favorite closed-back headphone, the MT220.

was waiting for someone to start the thread,

if they sound any similiar as the mt-7, in terms of clarity, with improvement,  it could be a quite nice headphone

have some feeling, it won't have that piercing highs, a bit uncontrolled that the mt220 had
dont think they will go back to lower quality
as the mt-7 absolutely sounds better for production than the mt220 comparing in clarity, and softer, more controlled bass, as with yamaha

as they are talking about about their speaker line on their website,
and comparing to the mt-7 it does sound quite close to the hs-8 studio-speakers in terms of sound, still it's the lower model, and as i wrote in the mt-7:

mt-8 probably will have more width and bass

the mt-7 actually is quite nice, and the bass has developed, as they were very new when i got them

is there anyone that think's, that they will release a 50mm or larger driver next time?
for some more adjustment, dynamics and an even larger bass-response, with the yamaha sound

have high hopes on this one, if it similar to the mt-7,
and without piercing highs, when you listen to a, not so good mastered track
then it could be really pleasant

Curious and OT: did you ever try sorbothane in the mt220's, or other pads? I found the highs not to be "piercing", but to be a bit fatiguing. This was fixed after applying some sorbothane and switching the pads to HM5 hybrids.

You know what are some good cans? Ultrasone HFI-680's. They (along with the MT220's) have pretty much controlled my "need for new closed cans" lust :)

Having said that, I'm still intrigued by the MT7's and MT8's.

I'm assuming that one is slightly inferior to the 780, which I had. The MT220 sounded way better to me.

Looks nice. I've always had a soft spot for Yamaha headphones. My first good headphone was the ortho HP-1.
