Zach i thought you died... I haven't seen an update on the status page in about a week and thought either you got seriously injured or went on vacation...

Glad to know you're back... I'm dying in anticipation of my omni :o2smile:

Oh sorry! Not on vacation - just get lost in production sometimes and forget to update the order sheet. Will do so today!

Does the ZMF website ordering page indicate when B-stock is available or does one have to inquire / request?

We post b stock on the "shop" page of our site when available.

So, the Vibro for the dynamics/fun tuning, with a swapped in Blackwood driver?  For a less expensive and fully closed can that's close to the Omni?
darthsmile.gif

(maybe that minimized the 10k bump and makes mid-bass just a little more linear without making it flat?)

I've just about sold my 'extras' to fund a new purchase, and am looking at these 3 still trying to choose a closed can that's complimentary to my mod'ed HE-500s. Something that's warmer (less treble energy), with deeper/harder/more bass when I need it.  I love the HE-500s, but sometimes the recording (or my mood) just begs for a sound that has lush mids (love the 500 mids), maybe even warmer, but less high-end energy, and more bass energy - yet still the clarity and speed of a planar (planar cans with a downward frequency slope, *sounds* like ZMF to me!).

But not so "dark" as an HD650 (those just felt like I was in a cave for some reason).

Thoughts appreciated !

I would go Vibro in your case. I feel they would complement the HE-500 very well and for the price point you can't find a better closed can honestly. For my musical taste I enjoy the Vibro more than the Blackwood although the Blackwood is technically 'better'.

It's weird, I don't believe I have large ears but the inner foam touches my ears slightly, not uncomfortable but just a bit in the way of the feeling of the headphones "disappearing" on my head. The weight distribution is amazing, I was expecting them to feel much heavier. The Omni pads being leather I expected them to get hot as I live in a rather humid country. That's not the case at all. They don't get hot and are super comfortable.

They look amazing. I'm in love with how they look to be honest. They feel substantial and premium.

Well, they have less bass than I was anticipating, it's perfectly natural to my ears, maybe a bit boosted than neutral. The mids magic haven't grabbed me yet. Maybe I need some mental burn-in. The treble at first felt a little dull, then I tried the quick mod on how to increase the treble by @aornic and tried different combinations. No damping was a little too hot and snazzy but not as worse as my hifiman he-400i. The square foams only was a bit sibilant and hot. The square foams places diagonally like a diamond with the circular foams on top were good.
I have tried to revert back to stock placement but it still sounds a incey wincey sibilant but nothing unbearable. Going to try doing it more properly later.

My setup is quite bad so that's to blame too. An Objective2 amp with no dac. So i'm basically double amping. Will get the modibit in the future.

I also tried them out of my phone (htc one m8) and they get to listenable volumes. Not sure about the sound though.
Cheers!

Give those babies some more juice and the bass should really come alive. Personally thought that the bass was one of the Omni's biggest strengths.

Zach was kind enough to allow me to add the seahorse case to my order.

After seeing all of these fine looking cans, I decided they definitely deserve a case for storage.

The more juice, the better, in my experience. The bass when I strapped them to a speaker amp was elite. The Wells Enigma is still my favorite overall with the Omni.

I would second this. My Omni sounds really amazing plugged into the headphone out of a Linn Majik-I speaker amp (and a Chord Mojo as the DAC).

Is anyone connecting the Omni directly to the speaker taps? I'd love to try that, but I've had trouble finding the right connector.

I did: http://www.head-fi.org/t/769682/zmf-omni-upcoming-semi-open-flagship/1635#post_12798608

You have a couple of options for the connector, the quick and dirty version is to chop into another cable and terminate those wires directly into taps or banana plugs. Otherwise you could contact someone like PETEREK, DHC, Nordost, etc. about making an XLR to banana/spade/speaker wire adaptor for you. I'd recommend just emailing them directly about it. It is probably the easiest cable for them to make.

I do think power helps - I also wonder if sending the signal out of the headphone jack into another amp may do some wonky things.  I have heard a lot of good things about the 02 amp from ZMF owners, but actually have never heard one myself as I'm a JDS element owner.

I didn't even realize this was available until the other day, Decware, one of my favorite amp manufacturers is selling their "UFO" (formerly known as the Taboo MK III which I have) along with the ZMF Omni Bocote for $2,694.00  - a fairly hefty price tag, but if you're eying the Decware as your endgame amp you can get the Bocote Omni for 30% off along with it:  http://www.decware.com/newsite/TABOO.htm
