flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)

I have the Legend X and U12 (no t), the U 12 sits there gathering dust, maybe they're just too warm for my tastes...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

One of the very few ways to get the best quality out of android phones to external dac, is UAPP on bit perfect mode. They use their own drivers skipping android upsampling, it's instantly noticeable, sounds much fuller and hiss drops to zero. Money well spend, I have not been able to (also...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

At that price, you are better off looking at players like hiby r3, fiio m7, shanling m0 etc, the first 2 certainly provides better sound quality. If you insist on v20, refreb ones are around $120 USD shipped on ebay.

Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

Ares II has one of the better confort around ear in my experience - no hard memory loops, it seems you may need to look at super thin cables such as linum cable: https://www.earphonesolutions.com/ultra-thin-invisible-replaceable-linum-cable-with-mmcx-or-2-pin-connectors.html or you can try the...

flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)

That's already a great price, over 10% off, HK has no sales tax for them to avoid, so they can only take off the company profit tax. I've found for high end iems, the recommended retail price is often higher, then they give you a closer price to the MSRP when haggled. Nothing you can do, the...

Wow the adaptors are at the exact same spot in both pictures, Amazon jp is charging 3 times the price. Here's the link to the taobao item: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a21wu.12321156-tw.0.0.6475442fXaJjMa&id=567081840762 or you can try ebay ones that are also expensive...

Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

If you check the dealer's facebook page, it appears they have demo units, located in Toronto, and have a tax free offer in place of 15% off. 2999 cad is only 2 265 USD for the Legend X. Look at Hong Kong, no sale at dealers (I physically went to the shop and asked), 20800 HKD = 2 657 USD, that's...

Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

Go Legend X if you want isolation, I'm looking to move away from 64 audio due to lack of isolation, i.e hearing train noises, loud talking etc... Although the old ADEL versions does appear to relief pressure. I also recommend going custom if possible if you are going for this price, I regret not...

Yup, exact quote from FAQ: "We also have a network of international exclusive distributors: Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, & Thailand. Due to this exclusivity arrangement, we do not accept purchases from customers in these countries. Please visit the Dealers page to obtain contact...

Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

Wow that's BS, your distributors charge 10% more than the website with no sales... That's like $400+ USD more expensive to get the LegendX from your distributors right now, why do you block us from getting from the website?

    LG V20 Sound Quality

Attenuation converter activates high gain mode... which defeats the purpose, if you get 100Ohm+ converter, you get distortion in the lows.

    LG V20 Sound Quality

Turn eq on in your music player and turn down the master volume tab. If you have poweramp that's under Settings -> Audio -> Replay Gain   Get poweramp, use direct volume control then change steps to 100 (DVC).   Btw don't get impedance jack like others are suggesting, it'll kick the phone...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

If you read the mojo or uapp thread, they avoid sampling like the plague, up sampling or down sampling is suppose to be bad (I don't yet have the time to test it in uapp) due to software introduce distortion/noise. Ideally you want the output sampling rate to be the same as your music files...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

Under Settings > Audio > Output, change to OpenSl ES Output if it isn't default (I think it is default if I remember correctly). Settings > Audio > Advanced Tweaks > Direct Volume Control ON + Volume levels set to 76 for finer control. Settings > Audio > Resampler > Resampler Type to SoX

    LG V20 Sound Quality

I am fortunate enough to live in a place where I can demo a lot of equipment just a few bus stops from work. Considered AK120II/ FIIO X5, and felt they weren't better than the V20 from the brief AB. Only brought the Mojo after ABing and felt it's worth throwing out 400+ USD and the added...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

From these impressions, it seems they may be tuned quiet differently, or maybe we're just using different players. I spent very little time with the stock player, poweramp alpha + OpenSL is quiet a different in SQ/tone, hence I mentioned the setup.

    LG V20 Sound Quality

I've only had the mojo for 2 days, hence holding off giving anything concrete, from the brief listen here and there, V20 sounds thin, impact and details are not as good in comparison.   As with the post, I have clearly stated my setup for testing, hence power isn't a problem. Also mentioned...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

Someone from this thread quoted a Chinese site saying the B&O tuning is like 'plain water' i.e less coloured, it is a different tuning with the same hardware. What's interesting to me is if it matters if you use poweramp alpha, which uses the OpenSL ES Output, which skips the Java output...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

As requested, I did a quick side by side on the V10 vs V20 (B&O tuning), both on poweramp alpha 703 OpenSl ES Output, with SE846+stock cable+spin fit tips. I due to limited time I only did it with 1 song I'm familiar with, below are what hit me without a critical listening session:   V20...

    LG V20 Sound Quality

Depends on what IEMs you are upgrading to, IEM upgrade will be the most noticeable. As for V20 and V10, I have the B&O version, it definitely has better treble, more space in the music it is immediately noticeable with my 64Audio A12. I still have my SE846 lying around, but I don't have the...

    Best Smartphone for audiophile

DACs only reduces noise from other electrical components (eg cpu) if they are isolated, external DAC/AMPs usually have a better design to isolate noise. It's not about the number of DACs but the quality of the hardware and software. In this case there is very little chance V20 will sound...

    1964 Ears Adel IEMs

If you watch the spotlight with mixing engineer "Michael Brauer" you will notice that he mentions they do not use the U12 for mixing, they still use their very expensive studio monitors. They only mention usage of iems for making sure the mix is dead centre.

    1964 Ears Adel IEMs

I have both the Adel U12 and SE846 on hand, I feel the only region where the SE846 wins is isolation. There are always trade offs to be made, bigger sound stage, putting the vocals back a bit may not be to everyone's taste. Have a look at empire ears, I got an e-mail saying Asius is...
