  I've just updated to 1.84 from 1.82. Used update.zip from hifiman.com download.
Everything was OK for the first time, shows 1.84 kernel 3.0.

So when you downloaded from the HiFiman site, what was on your desktop? I get a folder that says "update" and when I open the folder there is no "update.zip" inside. So what did you drop on the SD card that you put in the 901?

I'm sure your problem is, that when your browser completes download it automatically unzip the file.
Try download with another browser or switch off the auto unzip feature.

I still cannot understand that the same hardware with the same components is dead silent in one case and quite noisy in other case.
 
Otherwise it plays nice, but when I concentrate in pauses between tracks I hear some level of noise even on volume 1-2.

You hear any difference? I feel it sounds slightly sharper (Al Di Meola guitar SACD).  I liked the 1.82 better.

I thought 1.82 sounded fine. Do you mean that 1.84 has more emphasis on the highs or is colder sounding?

I do not know how to describe, the strings sound somehow more "metallicaly" to me. But I may be just an illusion.
I am just curieous what do other feel.
I hope there is a possibility to downgrade as 1.82 I liked much.

All you should need to do is put the 1.82 zip on a card and do the update. I don't like metallic so when I get mine going with the new FW, I will give impressions.

Ok, it was my computer unzipping the file that messed it up. I turned off the unzip function and now I get the correct folder. I will give my impressions of sound soon.

I think there is something not right with your amp card (or perhaps HM-901) if you get hiss/noise even though you have the volume down at around 1-2. Did you email HiFiMan / Head-Direct?

I will mail the Hifiman but I read earlier on this forum one member had more pronounced issue and thay did not "reproduced" it. If I imagine doing all customs procedures (I live in Europe) and then they would say "its OK" ...
In the package there was a paper with three quality controls ...

I balanced my TH900 Fostex and with the balanced card of the 901 the sound is very natural and excellent. Nice layering, no fatigue, just clean dynamic presentations of instruments and voices. Great fun!

I wish to know the cable that you used for TH900. It is either HD800 or TH900 on my next hit list. Did you first terminate to Hirose 6 pin and use adapters to connect to Intruder/HM901?

It is terminated with the Hirose. I always use the Hirose. I then can go to single ended or to any other connector as I have adapters for everything.

I also follow your way now for any new cable purchase. It is easier to get quality hirose female than trrs female.
