How-to ATH-AD900x Detachable Cable Mod (ATH-ADXXXx) (and what NOT to do)

Hey guys, would this be a good way to also do this to the other speaker/cup? I was thinking of making it balanced. Any advice?
This is one way to achieve a balanced setup. Since the headphones already have the wires for the right side running through the headband, another way would be to keep it single-entry, but use a TRRS jack and separate the ground wires.

p.s. If you do want to use a dual-entry setup with a jack in each side, but wouldn't be satisfied with drilling a hole in the right-side shell, you could buy a left-side shell replacement from the Audio-Technica parts department and mount it on the right side. That's what I did for my dual-entry setup.

Thanks for this I was able to revive an old ad700 and balance out a philphone!

Absolutely fantastic work! Many thanks for the tutorial!
I once had an AD1000, and perhaps due to the aging after years of usage, the outer coating of the stock cable cracked. During that time I kept wondering if I could replace its connector and replace the stock with a new cable. If I had seen your post earlier, maybe I wouldn't have had to sell it
