iFi Audio Asks... What (Product) Should We Make Next?

It's the same with books...these days, only "some of us read books"
I hope your wishes never translate to the book industry

Cheers!
Yeah only some of us want high end audio, the rest is content with some galaxy buds or whatever

I do read books. But I do buy e-books whenever possible. Simply because I don’t have a big hall in my house to spare as library space for all the books accumulated over time. Not to mention the nightmare of moving tons of weight of books every time I have to move.

I like @iFi audio sticking to 'DSD Direct' type DACs like TI/BB DSD1793

But there are better chips to be using these days that still do DSD Direct conversion

Maybe DSD1792 ? Much lower noise and distortion

Maybe newer ROHM DAC chips?

AKM DACs running in DSD Direct mode ?

I hope the DSD Direct stays in iFi products and even iDSD stays in the name of products

Time to ditch vol potentiometer also for better channel balance for the portable and desktop amps

I'm curious why you mention ROHM and AKM but omit ESS. The latest flagship in the market out of these 3 big brands is the ES9039Pro which is a beast both on paper and in use (one of my DACs comes with this chip).

I'm not familiar with DSD. Is there something that only the ROHM and AKM DACs do that the ESS does not ? Also personally having products with each one of these my preference is ES9039Pro > AK4499EXEQ > ROHM

I hope if iFi ever goes for something else then Burr Brown then it will be their own R2R or 1bit DAC. I bought an iFi iDSD specifically because contrary to almost all other manufacturers, iFi is not using ESS, AKM or ROHM.

Agreed. There is some magic in IFI's implementation with their Burr Brown chips even if the chips are quite dated now. Especially their Analog XBass which "fixes" the bass without losing the other details, never had any other device do the same.

A dedicated DDC/streamer that does upsampling internally like an Mscaler, but price it reasonably. Give it an app to change filters. The market could really use a hardware upsampler and it really shouldn't have to cost what the Mscaler costs to achieve the exact same results.

We are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish with the BB, here's a question that comes up all the time...

"Can you explain how it is possible that the DSD1793 can work up to 32 Bit / 786 kHz.
The data sheet says it is only 24 Bit / 192 kHz."

This is sort of our specialty, we have a deep understanding of all the chipsets we use like no other manufacturers, hence we are able to unleash the hidden potential of the chipsets like no other, enabling the DSD1793 to do DSD512/PCM768 is just one of many that we do.
That’s all we can say :)

So at some point, technology may go past what we can squeeze out of the BB, as I have said many times here, and in other threads, iFi products and the mindset behind the sound is one of the things that made me appreciate them even before I went to work for them.

So as we will never say never to ESS, Just look at our new GO Pods, we are always mainly focused on sound, and what we can attain in that aspect. So Channel Master in those and I love what we've done there as well.

Onward and Upward, as long as the sound is there!

Cheers!!

I bought an iFi iDSD specifically because contrary to almost all other manufacturers, iFi is not using ESS, AKM or ROHM.

The DSD1793 converts DSD to analogue just like RoHM and AKM when DSD Direct is enabled... which is why I mentioned them.

They all treat DSD different to ESS (which is why I did not mentioned ESS deliberately)

Thanks for sharing this, very interesting!

Cheers!!
I see you took me up on my idea! So you found tech on-the-self at JVC Kenwood that did the same thing to rebuild the original wave form. That was 60 days ago. Wow, you guys have really speeded up your developement cycle. Bravo with the Kensei Go Bar. If it's a big success do I get a discount for a good idea steer...lol? I'll write up a review if YES.
