So this thing also takes USB audio in and can do DSD out? Like, not from a thumb drive but a mobile phone?
Presently using an Onkyo C-7030 as a CD transport with several different dacs. It sounds very good and has had low usage, but it is almost 6 years old. I wonder if the ET3 would be much of an improvement. 7030 cost $173 in 2017 vs over $700 for the ET3. I would imagine that the construction of the ET3 would be superior. Wonder how long its warranty is?

Introducing Shanling ET3 – Dedicated Digital Transport

With ET3 we continue to build our line of compact top-loading CD players. While the previous Shanling EC3 was designed to be a sort of multifunctional CD player for a wide range of users, ET3 is a much more focused machine, designed for one clear use – Top-Quality Digital Transport for High-End DACs.

Shanling ET3 offers a range of standard digital outputs, but we also added more advanced I2S output and even USB output. Allowing for the transport of super High-Res files, above the limits of standard coaxial or optical outputs. ET3 can read these High-Res files from connected USB drives or it can be used alongside your local wireless network and DLNA streaming.

  • Same compact design as EC3 (just 25.5 x 18.8 cm)
  • CNC Machined Metal body
  • Developed as a pure digital transport
  • CT7302CL Upsampling chip
  • All-to-DSD or All-to-PCM Upsampling function
  • I2S / Optical / Coaxial / AES EBU / USB Digital Outputs
  • Philips SAA7824 CD Drive
  • Sanyo HD850 Laser
  • Playback from USB Drive
  • 2.4G/5G Wi-Fi with DLNA/Airplay support
  • Bluetooth 5.0 input with LDAC, AAC and SBC support
  • MQA CD Support
  • Can act as NAS server with USB drives
  • Based on Ingenic X2000 Platform
  • Companion app
  • Remote Control included

MQA Support: MQA Full Decoder (PCM176.4 kHz output to all DACs) // MQA Core (PCM 88.2 kHz output to MQA capable DACs)

Nice looking. My reality is that CD players should not be so expensive as to price themselves out of a revival of the format. I recall when it was "discovered" that the inexpensive players used the same mechanical transport as those made by the boutique brands. I am still an ardent admirer of your stunning EC3, which to my eyes is simply one of, if not the, best looking CD players on the market. If I place it second it would only be due to the even more classic good looks of the Marantz CD60. And that model is too much $$$$ for what it offers and to be honest,? Bits are bits and looks matter but the point of diminishing looks is being rapidly reached here.

I wish Shanling all the best with the ET and the EC3.

What type of interface does this have in order to play directly from an external drive ?

There is standard USB A port on the rear.

Great! Looking forward to this. I have around 3500 CDs and a number of them sound excellent.

Trying to also figure out how to rip them from this. MQA is defunct now so why list it.

No matter what is the current state of MQA company, all the MQA CDs will still be here.
(How many users actually bought into the format is different question, but from this release you can see we think there is decent amount of them).

will it be available in 110/115/120v ?

Yes.

So this thing also takes USB audio in and can do DSD out? Like, not from a thumb drive but a mobile phone?

It has USB port for connecting drives(Hard drives, thumb drives, SSD). It will not work with USB stream.

Warranty depends on your local laws and customs, so please check with your local seller.
For Chinese sellers it should be 1 year.

What so meant from my question is what type of UI does it have for scrolling and selecting through a USB drive ? Can it navigate through a multi level directory ?
It has screen and wheel, so you use that to navigate. Or you can connect it to Eddict Player app to browse from your phone.

What was the first CD you bought when they first came out in 85? Mine was Dark Side of the Moon....
Imagine. Got it Christmas Eve and it gave away what I was getting Christmas Day. I think I was 9.

Hi! If I may please? I am looking for a first time portable player for one of my nephews and saw your gorgeous M0 Pro MP3 Player. Is this a suitable intro into a quality DAP for a young adult? If this is not the place to ask this then please pardon the interruption from this discussion on the beautiful ET3.

Considering that a CD cost about $15-20 USD in 1990 dollars back then, you always listened to the entire album. I know some of my personal favorite songs were never in the top 40. This is the biggest change versus today IMHO. On the other hand, I could only afford to own a small fraction of the genres I liked with CDs so today's streaming services offer a nearly unlimited listening experience. On the third hand, I always felt that CD format had more to do with fighting illegal copying of cassettes than audio quality. Ah, fond memories of my Nakamichi Dragon cassette player!
