Two new HifiMan players announced: HM700 and HM802

According to those who've heard all three, the 802 is kind of in between the other two in terms of musicality and fidelity.

That's my opinion as well. Got a chance to hear it a few months back.

Tempted by a hm700. Can I get a balanced cable made up with the right plug for my IEMs though?

I meant to change my IEMs to balanced with that connector

ClieOS is about right on RE400B + HM-700. Great sound for the price overall, this bundle was meant for each other IMO.

Edit: just checked what's up with my Heir Audio 8.A. Connected directly to balanced socket they hiss audibly. When I use that thingy with micro-USB plug, well, hissing stops. It's not very solid connection, wiring in that thing is very thin. I guess I'll have to make balanced cable for my 8.A.

I'm in the same boat as you - this is the only one I could find. I'd use it but I was hoping to find another, thinner one as I plan on having two cables made - one balanced for the HM700, and one where I might be able to graft a microphone from a cheaper earphone headset so I can use my ASG-1 with my smartphone and still be able to have calls interrupt my music (instead of people looking at me on the train because I'm using a dedicated music player and can't hear the smartphone in my bag). The size of the plastic housing on that one looks like it won't fit through my phone case.

Just to clarify as per the Head Direct web site the HM700 is 16bit for FLAC and 16/24 for WAV
weird, a bit like the Colorfly C4.

So am I correct, it won't play 24bit FLAC???

It said 24bit wav but it probably downsamples it internally. As far as I know, the hardware should only support 16bit.

Just finished testing HM-700 (with RE-400B and Heir Audio 8.A) vs DX50 and X3, obviously with the same IEM-s. Well, I skipped X3 + 8.A for reasons most of you know, as this is one example of a big no-no. OK, and the winner is ************

Naah, will write "couple" words tomorrow, didn't expect such outcome. Stay tuned folks.
