xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Hi IFI very much interested in the gryphon but wonder what the refresh/update cycle is on the gryphon and is a v2 on the horizon?
Dealers have the Gryphon selling at a discount. If history repeats itself I’d expect to see a Gryphon 2 announcement for CanJam NY next month.

I have heard no talk internally of an updated Gryphon or V2, but all that means is I haven't heard it.

I understand why you ask but even if one was coming next year, we wouldn't be able to discuss it openly. So my first comment is the best I can offer up, which is a slight step up from I don't know, :xf_wink:

Cheers!!

Appreciate it, for now I’ll stick with the go blu and wait for a used gryphon or a potential update.

So, I've received my Gryphon today from Amazon UK.

@iFi audio or anyone else who knows and can assist:

When you charge the Gryphon, is the battery led flashing? Mine does not. I have it charging for around 3 hours now, using the stock cable, and it still shows Battery Low and turns off. Battery led is Yellow.

I've connected my 64 Audio Volür and my Meze 109 Pro via the Single-ended 3.5mm output. Then connected the Gryphon via USB_C, using the stock cable, to my smartphone. I am getting internment, chopped, sound.

Is this a defective unit or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you

The battery LED should flash to indicate the charging state, mine does.

I would contact the vendor you got it from as there is a possibility it is defective. All of what you indicated does not sound like normal functionality.

When powered on and connected to the battery you should see a charged amount and lightning bolt by the battery indicator after three hours.

Sorry for the trouble.

Cheers!!

Thank you, I will contact Amazon.

Can you clarify a bit what do you mean, above?

On the screen, as so...

Goes without saying but make sure you are using the USB-C charging port on the back and not the data port, The charging port on the left

Cheers!!

Thank you, yes I am using the charging port. So, the number 92 there indicates your current battery charge level?

Also, if you happen to know, when the Gryphon is bought brand new, does it have like a celophane wrap on the box? Mine did not have any of that. Hope I'm making sense.

To my knowledge "new" products should have a seal of some sort. I have seen this as simple as the kind of tab you cut to separate the outer box and cellophane wrap it depends on the product.

Yes, 92 is the charge level.

If it was me, especially with Amazon I would return.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers!!

Isn't 92 the volume? 🤔

Thanks, return initiated. Too bad I did not have the chance to listen to it at all.

I agree, Gryphon is one of my favorite iFi devices for overall use.

I even use it for TV on occasion with Bluetooth at night. Hopefully, they can get you another one quickly.

Cheers!!

Amazon UK did not give me an option for a replacement, even though I selected "Defective Unit". They just offered me a full refund back into my card. I am Prime member.

In any case, I've managed to get the battery light flashing. I used another cable and now it is "working" as long as I am charging it. As soon as I take it off charging, it shuts down.

Anyways, I managed to listen a bit, while connected to power, it sounds nice. A bit different than my Mojo 2. But I cannot really tell, since this is a defective unit - who knows how the sound might be affected, too.

Now that the battery led started flashing, I will leave it to see if it will fully charge. The battery indicator shows almost full but the led flashes yellow, go figure. Not sure through what kind of brutal abuse this second hand unit, which I've paid a full price for, must have been through to behave like this.

I'm not sure how Amazon works where you are at, usually we have an option to return/replace instead of refund but that isn't for everything.

Could be someone somewhere pulled a fast one and swapped a unit in the box, you never know.

Sorry again for the trouble.

Cheers!!
