New portable Headphones (IEM?) up to 500 bucks

Hi guys,    after saving up some money after my birthday, christmas and other stuff, I am now again looking for new headphones. Therefore, i am looking for something like the DT1350 or an IEM.   Most time, i am listening to rock (Slayer, Metallica, but also Depeche Mode or ZZ Top), but...

Headphones sensitivity, impedance, required V/I/P, amplifier gain

The following table is based on measurements, not manufacturer specs.   Target SPL is 110 dB SPL. The source is assumed to output 2 V. The amp is assumed to be a voltage source (0 ohm output impedance). Voltage, current, power are RMS figures.   What do the columns mean? S@1V is the...

Beyerdynamic T70 - Need to replace right driver - Any suggestions?

I just moved this post to the intro + help area  ------------------------------------------ I'd like to fix my T70's.  The driver on the right side isn't working. Anyone know how I could sort this out, or have a broken pair for sale? Thanks so much!

    Versatile headphone amp solution?

Hello all,   Been a couple of years getting into head-fi, coming from 2 channel audio. I moved into a smaller place and the neighbors aren't too fond of the Dyn's so I am looking to put my investment into some better headphone equipment. My cans currently are DT990/600, and K702 in the past...

Does the Beyer T70 really have light bass below 200 hz? The freq response chart is showing good bass response.

The freq response chart is showing the T70 have a relatively even bass response compared to the LCD-2 and HD650. Does the Beyer T70 really have light bass below 200 hz as many have commented on?  I'm debating between this and the Mad dog to replace my uncomfortable DT1350.

    Warm Transparent Closed Backs

I tired the Mad Dogs, but they where TOO warm   I'm thinking of ATH w5000 or w1000x woodies as my next attempt for clean warm cans [I use a tube for extra warmth a a little more bass]   I love my byer dt 880 pro 250s and I want a closed version of them :O [and not the dt 770] Sound stage...

Need ear cushions for beyerdynamic t90's

I purchased a used pair of t90's off of craigslist today. So far I love how they sound, but not how they smell. They smell like cats and cigarettes....even after taking them off I can still smell them!   I've looked through the beyerdynamic "spare parts" on their website, but I couldn't find...

    Metal/Post-Rock Headphones

Hey Everybody,   I'm hoping you can help me in deciding which pair of headphones would be most suitable for my musical library and needs. Below are the details:     Will be used about 80% of the time to listen to metal: Agalloch, Dark Empire, Primal Fear, Buckethead (not sure if he...

A jump from Fiio to Schitt

I have a basic setup from Fiio (E17+E09K) with my Beyerdynamic T-70. It sounds great, but I was thinking of making the jump to a Schitt setup (maybe tubes?). Can anyone tell me if there will be a noticeable difference?   My source is a Macbook Pro with lossless.

In Search for Alternative for Beyerdynamic T70--> Lack of Bass

Hi all,   I have the Beyerdynamic T70 in loan use now. I completely unlike the sound it produces on my set! (DIY TPA BIII, IVYIII with Ventus EZ headphone amps)   It is quite detailed but for the rest the sound is penetrating my head on a manner that it hurts my tooth and the sound is...

    Closed headphones with strong treble?

I've been looking at the Shure SRH940 and the KRK KNS 8400 - but I've read soundonsound reviews of both of them which said that they've both got great mid-range response and ok (not bad by any means, but not stand-out) treble. I've heard similar things said of the AKG K272 HD and 271.  ...

Which one is "it"? T90, D600 or M4U2

So, quite a weird list I have here with three completely different headphones.   The thing is...I'm looking for a upper mid - high end can, so not quite HD800 / T1 / LCD2 level, but above DT880 / HD600-650 / K701.     What I don't care about AT ALL is sound neutrality. I don't care if...

Looking for Shure 940 sound in another headphone

Hello all,   Based on all the great reviews about the clarity of the Shure 940's I overlooked the comments about build quality and purchased them. I figured that the "cheap plastic" wouldn't be a concern for me since I'm generally easy on my stuff and it had the nice hard case included. Well...

Would you rec. Grado sr325is for a treble enthusiast?

Hello all, I'm making a decision between the 225i and the 325is and I'm turning to Head-Fi for some valuable input~   I have a fondness for the higher frequencies. I don't shy away from them, especially when I'm in the mood for brassy jazz and especially electronica, where (timely)...

Looking for first pair of non-IEM 'phones

Hi! I'm seeking some guidance from you experts here.  I'm not really too knowledgeable or familiar concerning on/around ear phones - from the sound I should expect from a particular model, to model nomenclature by brand. I guess this is where you guys come in.   I take public transit/am on...

Does price determine how big of a jump I will get with sound qaulity?

I'm looking to purchase a new headphone and I'm tempted by the Ultrasone edition 8. It is also expensive but I have no issues with that if it's going to have great quality. Question I have is how much better is the sound quality to something that's lower in price? Is the jump in sound quality...
