Sounds great with Bokeh :) that Groove switch is dangerous though LOL the bass boost is ridiculous.

Well, that’s rather excellent.

I've been working on my HY69 amplifier rebuild today. Pretty straightforward, I kept most of the wiring intact and transplanted the circuit into the new chassis. There are going to be a few changes though beyond using the toroidal mains transformers. Each D3a is going to have its own separate heater winding and the heaters will be DC elevated around 40V. Also going to switch from LED bias to a cathode bias with Jupiter Cosmos caps.

I took the protective films off the toroids for the pic, then replaced them so they don't get scratched while the chassis is flipped over.

Also received my Finemet core line output transformers from Japan. Plan is to replace the Sowter line output transformers in my DAC, which will require ordering a new top plate. I haven't completely ruled out just building a second PCM63 DAC with these transformers, I have a second quad of PCM63-K on hand. We'll see, haven't decided yet.

What a Merry Christmas you will have if you finish it in time.

Plan is to finish tomorrow morning! It's nearly done actually.

Theses toroids looks dope. Do you have a wiring scheme when you are doing this type of work or is it just in your head ?

I have schematics in LTSpice for the sake of testing, but most of it is in my head.

HY69 amp rebuild is done. Still need to put it through the suite of measurements to make sure the D3a are behaving (I threw ferrite beads on every electrode), but the amp is now silent with the transformer change. It's now what I imagined it would be, it sounds incredible. Full bodied and dynamic, with excellent clarity and a massive soundstage. It's now really my end game amplifier.

Listening with Bokeh right now, best I've heard it so far.

Well, that's a rather stellar result.

I really like the two-tone enclosures as well. Looks sharp.

🎶 Silver and gold...🎶

I also like the symmetry of the new transformers with the caps it looks really balanced from an aesthetic standpoint now.
Form and function is balance and that is Zen my friend.
Nice job!
I would still put it under the Christmas tree if you have one :)

Awesome man. How does your 801a amp compare to this one?

Thank you! Ya know, I can't really say as the 801A amp is purely a speaker amplifier, so not really able to do an apples-to-apples comparison.
