Just wondering if any of you have noticed ATC portable players listed in ebay. They are rebranded Xuelin and Xduoo DAPs with cool stealth attire.

So a rebranded xduoo X10 at double the price?

If you send me a xduoo X10, I'll CNC diamond engrave anything you want on it, including the logo of your choice. Then pocket the extra $110.

Haha .. I remember Cypherus Audio were selling modified (Xduoo) X3 for $1000, but unlike ATC players, internal components were replaced and redesigned. It also had a copper case like AK380s.

At the moment , I have a Hidizs AP100 and Sony A17 handy. I am terrible in describing the SQ - so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. I am using LZ A4 [Red + Blue] for the comparison.

Compared to Hidizs AP-100, XS01 has more warmer tonality.I felt the bass is bit more meatier, hits harder and it has great texture(not sure if this is the right word). Clarity and separation are very similar. AP100 has much treble extension , but I prefer XS01.

Compared to A17, XS01 bass hits much harder and clearer. For some reason I find A17 to be lifeless. XS01 on the other hand for me is exciting and makes me dance :)

Other Pros
- Swappable opamps and they are easy to access. (BTW I am using OPA627AP)
- Solid build quality.
- Has four digital filters like in other DAPS which has AK DACs.
- Two headphone outputs, out of which one is for hard to drive headphones.
- Barebone UI like HisoundAudio studio's , but much better, the extra two button(Home and Back) really helps.

Cons
- Does not play 24 bit FLAC
- No dedicated line out , but there two headphone output, one much more powerful than other.
- There is a slight cracking noise when used with sensitive IEMS while changing tracks. Most of the time I dont notice it.
- Barebone UI , this also means , no playlist or other features.
- No Eq

Hope this helps.
Do you have to pay for firm ware upgrades. I thought that was mentioned by a reviewer on the Penon site.

What kind of files do you listen to? If low res MP3, stick with the phone. If high-res flac etc, you're really selling yourself short by using a phone vs a DAP.

Even with Mp3, my Mrobo C5 sounds way better than phones/laptops.
You can't go wrong with something like the Benjie X1 which sounds better than the C5 (apparently) and is ridiculously cheap at something like 25USD
Worth it 100% and you can always get Flac later, battery life 40-50 hours.

X1 is still my daily DAP for a few of reasons. First of all it's smaller than most so easily fits in my shirt pocket. Battery is excellent. Screen is still visible in bright light. It's so cheap I don't care if it gets dropped or lost. The only thing I don't like about it is that sometimes when turning on or removing/inserting headphones is you'll get a loud static POP. For some reason that never happens with the K9.

I take my Benjie S5 on vacation with me. Great at the airport, on the flight and at the beach. Excellent battery life.
