Brief Impressions on the HD-600 + Headphile Maple Cups

I recently received the Maple wooden earcups for the HD600/650 headphones, and after a rather easy DIY installation process (which only requires a phillips screwdriver and ten minutes of your time) I must say I'm pleased with the sound of these babies. A general disclaimer: YMMV! FYI, I have...

    IBM TrackPoint vs Touch Pad...

I have an IBM T42 notebook, and I find that I use both the trackpoint and the touchpad; however, they serve different purposes. The trackpoint is oh so convenient to use when you're typing, because it's right in the middle of the keyboard! And the touchpad is nice for doing non-keyboard...

I have 10k to blow on headphones

A junior in high school with 10k to spend on headphones? Hmmm. It's one thing to be a troll, but it's another thing to be just plain stupid about it. Pretty funny, though.

    MODERATOR POSTS

Fred, Whether you stay at Head-Fi or not, I wish you the best. My brother Dan (a.k.a. dan the audioman) and I enjoyed talking to you at the Head-Fi meets, and I've always enjoyed reading your commentaries on Head-Fi. All the best, Luke

Who is your favorite mail carrier?

USPS is my favorite; they're relatively fast, inexpensive, and very reliable IMO. FedEx is generally too expensive, but when I do need the uber-fast & reliable service, they deliver at the worst time around here (like 12 noon on a weekday!) which is pointless because I'm never home to sign -...

    "I Don't Believe in ADD"

Recently, I heard someone say that they "didn't believe in ADD." Suprisingly, I've found that quite a few people harbor this belief! I realize that this is still a controversial topic, but I find it a bit irksome that some still maintain the outdated belief that people currently diagnosed with...

Your secrets to taking GREAT photos of your gear?

Here's an example of a product shot I took of my HP-2; it's very plain and boring, but it utilizes both (1) diffuse lighting (I just used window light on a cloudy day) and a (2) backdrop which does not distract from the main subject. Notice the shadow is rather soft; this is an important...

Your secrets to taking GREAT photos of your gear?

I think the two most crucial elements to good product photography are 1) Lighting. Use a diffuse light source. Whether this means using a softbox in the studio or available window lighting, one will always achieve better results with diffuse lighting and its softer shadows. Avoid harsher...

    40gb 4g iPod vs. iRiver H-140

I've compared the line-outs of the iRiver H-120 and the iPod through an Emmeline SR-71 with the Etymotic ER-4S and HD600, and personally think the iPod has a slightly more transparent sound overall, with a more neutral frequency response.

best headphones to listen to classical music??

Senn HD-600's or Joseph Grado HP-1000 Series (HP-1, HP-2, HP-3) are my favorites for classical music.

    SR-71 or XP-7

I auditioned them both at a Chicago Head-Fi meet with Ray's switchbox and they're suprisingly close. I was hard-pressed to tell a difference, to be honest.

HD600 Love! HD650's get your own thread!

I've auditioned both the HD-650 and HD-600 extensively, and while I acknowledge that they're both great headphones, I personally prefer the HD-600. IMO, the 650 sounded less lush, definitely less airy, and a little more 'forced' and thus a tad less natural-sounding. Also, it seemed to me that...
