Introducing MOMENTUM 4 Wireless

And yes I've tested wired mode with Dragonfly Red and wired mode with SDAC/Lyr 3 both I thought sounded worse than just running BT mode directly.

Though I forgot to try USB to PC directly. Not sure if it would recognize as USB device..... But I'd imagine it would have same sound quality as BT mode I think.

is there any device that would help me get most of combination of these headphones and iphone 13 as a streamer?

I am looking for highest possible quality in BT streaming so looks like it would be adaptx adapt codec (which iphone doesnt do) so how about adding bt dac to this chain? Anyone has an idea and could decribe schema of connection? Was resesrching BT dacs from Fiio such as BTA30 pro but unsure if it fits my needs..

Any other tips ?

Curently listening to music like this:

1.)
iphone -( documents app with 320 kbps MP3s and FLACs) , bluetooth over to headphones.

2. )
Pc windows with spotify (non premium) , bluetooth from pc to headphones.

MOMENTUM 4 is a class compliant audio device, so if you connect via USB to your PC, it will charge AND act as the audio in/out (if you choose it in your system settings) and has a supported sample rate of 24-bit, 48 kHz; in most practical instances the wired connection will sound better than wireless, assuming the source is constant.

Ohhhh that's really neat, so it acts like a dac plugged directly into a PC right?

Really good to know, thanks for the heads up!

lol ok so from the new information I just gathered, I think you can use it USB wired.

1)
For iPhone, get the Apple camera kit:
https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/MK0W2AM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter

Then plug the USB wire from Momentum 4 into the USB-A side, then I think USB-C is for charging (use any phone charger). So you can listening and charging all at the same time.

2)
For PC it's a lot easier, just use USB wire plug into your PC. Then under sound option set output device (bottom right corner, the sound icon) to Momentum 4.

3)
Enjoy music.

Remember to turn off all the sound enhancements (turn off fade between tracks, turn off normalize volumes....etc) in Spotify and force settings to highest quality (just in case auto setting select low for whatever reason).

Otherwise good to hear you're in music heaven!

Try not to listen too loud.

I've tried both types of connection. I don't have a Dragonfly Red, but through a Mojo 2 using the wired mode, it sounds really good and definitely better than BT. You do have to have the headphone switched on though (it works switched off, but sounds rubbish). I guess that this connection (with the headphone switched on) is not using Momentum 4's internal DAC - the standard 3.5 jack cable is not sending a digital signal so wouldn't need any conversion at the headphone end. Connecting a USB cable from a MacBook Pro (which I've also done) also produces good results and this time I'm assuming it is using the headphone's DAC as the signal is digital. The headphone still sounds good via BT but I've found it sounds (even) better wired.

Wait you were saying you're able to use 3.5 mm AND turn on the headphone and it improves sound quality? Does it just take whatever 3.5 mm analogue sound then applies the headphone sound correction to it?

I only tried 3.5 mm + headphone off and as you said it's kind of rubbish sounding.

So effective from what you said then we can do the following from best sounding to worst sounding:

1. Use 3.5 mm wire + turn on headphone
2. Use USB wire + turn on headphone
3. Use BT mode
4. Use 3.5 mm + headphone off

MOMENTUM was indeed designed to be used with the electronics active, and indeed will sound optimum this way. You can use it as a passive headphone in a pinch but with the long battery life and ability to listen while charging/use the DAC the scenarios where you need to use it passive or probably slim to none. If you use the 3.5mm connection and want to use an external amp for whatever reason, go for it! Experimentation is half the fun and you might find a combo you really like, but my hunch is that you'll like the way they sound ON regardless of the source and amp chain. Makes me want to try it with a tube amp just for kicks but mine is packed away for a few weeks.

I'm more surprised that it's able to use 3.5 mm mode + unit turned on?

Did I misinterpret it?

Otherwise I did find using the internal DAC already sounded really good. :relaxed::thumbsup:

Anyone knows what's new in firmware 2.13.28?
Some misc fixes & optimizations, and in-app identifiers for color variants. I'll see if I can get a change log but i believe this was simply usability optimizations.
