Depends. Usually yes to get at the hole on the pot. But I have had luck doing it from the front too and working it. But not sure I’d do it on the LP if not familiar with doing it. Don’t want you to mess it up.

I have never opened it up to look at the pot.

This amp drives me nuts. Sounds great but I have had too many problems with it. Tubes that make a wind type sound that comes n goes, I have tried different tubes. Comes back. And now white light won't come on except after multiple turning on and off, then red light comes on again in middle of a song then goes out again. Very frustrating. Can't sell it ,just a big paper weight now

On more than one pair of headphones? If only one, with different cables? On both SE and Balanced outputs?

Happens on all headphones. Wind noise will happen in one channel then I switch tubes around happens in other channel. Bought new tubes , does it less but still happens.

Are you using the tubes that came with the LP?

nope, using mullard 12au7 with tube store adapters
I’m still learning about tubes, but from what I was able to pick up, the 6922 works with a filament voltage of 6.3V, and the 12AU7 run at 12.6V. I wonder if theres a compatibility issues at play here?

With the proper adapter (e.g., 12AU7 to 6922), the 4th and 5th pins of the 12AU7 are connected together so that heaters are in parallel, which means that the heater voltage will now be 6.3V on the 12AU7 with the adapter according to the 12AU7 spec sheet I'm looking at right now. Heater current will be 300mA. The 6922 is spec'd to run at a heater voltage and current of 6.3V and 300mA respectively. No compatibility issues here with a proper, well-constructed adapter.

I had a similar experience when I tried to the 5670 with an adaptor. The tubes where fine in another amp but when I put the 5670 in the LP with the adaptors a windy noise in one ear.I swapped back to Brimar CV2492 (E88CC) and the noise went.

Been a while since I posted on this thread, but in case anyone is interested, I'm selling my cap modded LP, also have a few sets of extra tubes and tube lifters to go with it. I succumbed to upgradeitis.
It's in the classifieds but PM me if interested.

... with a 12A#7 --> 6922 (E88CC) adapter, the 12AU7 pins themselves are 'rewired in parallel' such that filament voltage becomes 6.3V and filament current becomes 300mA.
EDIT: I just saw @sennfan83261's answer above. 🏆 .

Im really appreciating the sound quality from this amp especially after rolling into better ECC88 Telefunken tubes. Worth the $150 for the pair. Playing my ZMF Auteurs through it and they’re sounding great!

I've been using the Amperex 7316 1950's Large O-Getters with adapter and they are clearly the best out of the many that I've tried. RCA Clear Tops 12AU7 and Tungsram 12AU7's are also pretty good at a lower price. For the Amperex 7316's, you can find them for around 175 for a matched pair on Ebay if you wait.

To continue in this vein, Liquid Platinum is truly singing the heavens with RFT ECC82 'foil getter' tubes (in PTS adapters) ...
