Shanling EH3 - Desktop DAC/AMP with Wi-Fi, USB Drive Playback and Flagship ESS ES9039PRO DAC

Hi,

The digital filters apply a slight modification to tonal output is the DAC. It varies from audible to really subtle.
On the EH-3 we're in the subtle side of the mods.

Concerning Is, that is a connection with a plug that looks like HDMI
But the order of the wiring varies from one device to another. So if iis does not work with one device you may want to try the other setting and get something that produces sound.

Hope you'll find this useful...

Thank you. So how should SRC be adjusted?
Me I've set it to Bypass

I am not sure I want something to upsample the original message. I think that can only aller sound not improve it.

But you can try. It will not harm and you can then decide what sounds best to your ears. If, of course, you hear a real difference.

The user guide link cannot be opened because it is not secure.!!!

Sorry for this, our IT team hosts manuals on the Chinese server and it doesn't work sometime.

Manual comes with EH3, but if you need digital copy, you can download it here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1erIot6PM3tmeqqBcGVQXNGXWjyHbgUN9/view?usp=drive_link

I can't open the user manual. Can someone explain the features to me?
digital filters????
IIS Input mode???

Digital filters affect how PCM files are processed in DAC.
It's a basic concept for audio devices, there is a lot of reading about it online, you can start for example here:
https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/blogs/how-to/how-to-pick-the-best-filter-setting-for-your-dac

I2S is a form of digital input, which you can use with digital sources that also offer I2S output.

Thank you. So how should SRC be adjusted?

Up to your preferences.
I personally like to run it at higher DSD rates.

Hi,

With this coment I would like to confirm that I think that the EH-3 is really highly sensitive to Wi-Fi trafic.

My set-up is following : my modem/router is used as a Wi-Fi accesspopint and everyone in the family connects to it.
When I am am alone at home with my daughters not using the Wi-Fi, I can enjoy the EH-3 almost without problems.
As soon as my daughters use the Wireless network a little more than lightly, I get juerky sound... except when using Eddict as that one does not make use of DLNA but transfers files directly from the USB drive plugged into the EH-3.

Suspecting that the trafic was the culprit, I bought a Wi-Fi repeter that I cound not place ideally.
Things got really better.
I still got some juerky sound from time to time, always when my daughters were at home.
But that was now really not that often...
About maybe once every hour or so.
A short 5 second pause from the EH-3 button or remoter control and there I go for another hour.

So I also had the opportunity to buy a M9 Deco set from TP-Link. And I could install that in a more 'strategic place".
So one of the devices is used not as a repeater but as an access point.
So it takes the connection wired and then sends wirelessly.
Since I got this one installed and the EH-3 connected to that one I experienced litterally ZERO jerky sound or dropouts...

I am almost sure this is a problem that can be fixed by firmware update.
So I would like to draw Shanling's attention to this and ask if they could peroform tests that would confirm this.
If that is confirmed if they could come up with a fix... That would avoid me being exposed to too much waves...

All in all, I can now really enjoy the sound of the EH-3 as I want it to be :)
And I can say it sounds absolutely gorgeous !!!

Regards

Ok, good to know that your issues were solved by improving Wi-Fi signal.

Hi,

Yes, it seems the issues are solved.
Of course I still need a "long-term" confirmation.
But so far, I FINALLY can really ENJOY the sound quality of the EH-3 at 100% :frowning2:
Without the fear of getting a jerky sound at some point :frowning2:

I would like to stress that it was not the SIGNAL as I had 5/5 signal.
But the "trafic" on the same Wi-Fi channel...

And also would like to stress that this occured only when using DLNA/UPnP.
Of course, when Eddict retrieves files from the USB stick, it simply asks the EH-3 to play them from USB stick so front display says "USB".
When I use third party software, even if retrieving files from the USB Stick in the EH-3, the front display says "DLNA".

So I suspect that the way the EH-3 handles DLNA stream might be a little problematic.
Because the Fiio R7 placed in the exact same location did not suffer from any dropout of jerkiness...

That is also why I come to the conclusion that this is probably something that can get fixed with a firmware update.
Of course if you are able to reproduce the problem at your installation...I can give details on PM if you'd like.

Regards.

Hi,

New update to Shanling Eddict app released yesterday.
It says that it improves SyncLink connection.
That is a nice addition as indeed I reported that the connection to the EH-3 is not reliable.

But disappointed to see that there is STILL no option to disable continuous playback.
You said that feature exists in some of your devices.

If that feature exists on certain devices I assume that :
- 1°) including it is not too difficult ;
- 2°) it is considered as something useful...

Please tell us there is some hope to see that feature make it to our devices also one day... maybe before 2048.

Hi,
Just a short notice to say that I got a new wireless router.
It's a Xiaomi ax1900.
Should support Wi-Fi 2, 5 and 6.
I got a separate 2.4 GHz wifi setting
It is impossible to connect the EH-3 to that router.
It connects flawlessly to the tp-link deco.

So either I did not configure the AX1900 as I should or the EH-3 does not support some Wi-Fi protocols...

If anyone could help and report the EH3 is working with ax wireless routers...

Check if it offers some legacy mode or similar, on some routers it needs to be enabled for the first connection.

Hello. Try changing the wi-fi protection profiles in the router at the connected frequency. I had a similar problem on one of my devices.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer.
I will try that but really do not think it will help
I even tried with no password and it did not connect with EH-3.
But I'll try with wpa2 and wpa3 as you did in your picture
