Shanling M1s Compact Portable Player - Now With Tidal Streaming!
Sep 24, 2023 at 5:19 AM Post #91 of 126
My two queries (1) does it have proper coaxial digital out ? ( not toslink optical as optical has problem beyond 24 96) (2) does it receive stream from uapp app on Android phone on same wifi network, say when I provide hotspot from my Android phone itself? ( this is required for portability and outdoor use)

1. M1s has SPDIF Coaxial output, combined in 3.5mm jack.

2. M1s supports DLNA. Then it's up to your choice of app and network.

Have you tried factory reset of the M1s?

I have updated the firmware to 2.4 and did a factory reset, still no luck. It is really bizarre because Tidal works otherwise. It is just that when I go to my playlists it freezes. The screen shows "Tidal" on one side and then "User" on the other side, within the Tidal app. Screenshot attached.

Also upgraded. Still no luck connecting to my apple tv 4k via bt and bt connection with my oled lg TV is so out of sync so I can't use it.
This is really bad for a product at this price tag. Bt connectivity issues with the top of the line and latest apple product? What? It is the reason why we bought this product in the first place.

So strange, really seems you are so far only user facing such issue.
By any chance, do you have any other Tidal account you could try to login to test it? Because we can only assume that something in your personal list of playlists might be causing this.

Sorry, no updates on this from software team.

DLNA is not working properly. Stops at the end of every song. I'm using Eddict Player and have to Skip manually at the end of every song.
Anybody with the same problem? What app do you use on Android to play the device streaming your music in your Nas?
I like much this Little Player, Hope this can be solved easily.
Thanks !

Still no connectivity to Apple tv box. Also does anyone else get an issue that device won't turn on and you have to keep all buttons pressed or even just the Power button pressed for many seconds for the device to reset so that it turns on again?

Very capable hardware very disappointing software.

Another bug is when it's connected via cable you can't get to the "settings" menu to change gain, screen orientation or even screen brightness...you have to disconnect the cable, change settings and plug it in again. Sometimes I wonder if anyone tested this device as a real user before it's release

Currently our software team has no plans for fix for Apple TV box.

Have you found any connecting reason when it freezes? if you want, you can send us PM and we can check on some basic troubleshooting.

In USB DAC mode functionality of the player is limited, so it affects which parts of the system can be accessed or not.

Any chance that this will be updated to allow more than the current 20,000 song limit? Love the form factor so much, just wish it could handle more songs.

We asked software team about this few weeks ago, still waiting for any response if possible.

You add the Bluetooth connection to the chain. But given the lower quality of the Spotify files, there should be likely no degradation if you run it with LDAC codec.
Thanks for this reply. Since the iPhone does not have LDAC, and instead has AAC, can you tell me how different the audio quality will be with AAC on both of these DAPs when compared with a wired connection directly to my iPhone without a DAP?

Hi Titans,
thanks for your details reply. just some clarifications:

in 2) you mention "connect your M1s to iPhone/iPad/MacBook etc" - do you mean connect by wire? if yes which cable are you using?
in 4) you mention "if I haven't enabled the AptX HD from the iPhone app and even I have LDAC selected from the M1s, Momentum 4 connect with AptX HD". to my knowledge the iPhone can only use AAC or SBC codecs and not AptX HD. With this in mind are you stating that you have selected the M1s bluetooth codec from an app within the iPhone?

I was trying the creative W5 earlier today but the disturbance was quite high with crackling, losses of the song etc. This would be a huge deal for me if I can play tidal / Apple Music etc from my iPhone to my LDAC or APTx HD to my bt headsets.

I just want to be 100% want to be sure as I have invested a few hundred in dongles and the hiBy r2 which was promised as a fix.

At the end of the day I want to use this device as a DAC and a Bluetooth transmitter. I don't care for any other built in features and I will never put in a memory card to play music as I stream everything and that which I have encoded is all in ALAC which requires an Apple Music player.
I want to use my DAP for the same purpose - only to stream. Can you confirm if the audio quality is better while streaming Spotify through a DAP like the M1S as compared to just normally playing it from your smartphone via wired headphones?
