Two new HifiMan players announced: HM700 and HM802

The only thing that's stopped me from getting one really is the availability of 3.5mm TRRS plugs to reterminate my IEMs more than the internal memory, since I can live with a fixed 32gb for mobile use. It's not like a tablet or smartphone where that 32gb would need to be shared with apps and other sorts of files, like photos or PDFs.

If your IEM already has a replaceable cable design (MMXC, Westone / UE two pins, etc),  HifiMan is actually selling some balanced cable bundle that can instantly turn those IEM to balanced.

Thanks, but I can't find them on Head Direct yet; this is the closest one I found, and it has HE-series connectors on the headphone end. I have the Aurisoncs ASG-1, so the connectors I'll need are Westone pins on a custom IEM plug. Also since the jack of the HM700 is on the side I'd really prefer a right angle plug for that one; a straight plug kind of clogs up the pocket, not to mention it won't fit in a small velvet pouch unless I punch a hole through it.

Very interested in this player (or bundle).

I was already preparing to buy myself some RE-400, but after seeing this, I don't know. My fear is that the player, with other IEM's or heapdhones (that is, without using the balanced section), doesn't sound anything special.

ClieOS, using "un-balanced" IEM's (normal cable, normal everything, just using the TRRS adapter) on the HM-700, how does it stack up against, let's say, a Sansa Clip?

Thanks.

I don't have the proper adapter cable to use single-ended IEM on the HM700 (which is an early version that doesn't come with that cable), so it is just an partial impression based on plugging in a (unbalanced) RE400 straight into HM700 and clip+ - I'll say HM700 has a slightly cleaner, darker background, and wider soundstage. Beyond that I won't say RE400 sounds obviously better on the HM700. So if you are not using the full balanced signal, then I don't see the big point of moving from clip+ to HM700. Again, this is based on direct plug-in to HM700. I don't know if the adapter cable will change the sound or not.

Thanks! I'll check more on it then. But will probably just buy the normal RE-400 and upgrade the DAP later...

Currently HIFIMAN is currently accepting pre-orders (in China only..) for a 16GB version of the HM700 for RMB 699 (USD $115). Comes with a pair of free earbuds specifically designed for the player (impedance 150 ohm!), possibly based on the OK1/PK1.

Pretty good value I must say..

Naah, me and HiFiMAN get along quite nice, no reason to spoil that over one private picture. Though they coul've ask at least, or demand

Wow! If that happens to be true, it's a bargain isn't it? I mean, the PK1's/OK1's cost more than that on their own!

How does this compare to the Dx50 and X3?
