Wondering: what do you guys use for audio when out on the bike? In-ears? Bone conduction? None?
On the mountain bike, no music.

On the road / gravel bike, one AirPod Pro in my right ear. I find music really makes a difference with endurance rides (anything 30+ miles for me). Generally helps keep my cadence consistent and keeps me from focusing on the burn in my legs as the miles and vert creep up.

When I'm not on public roads I use mainly IEMs connected to one of our wireless DAC/amps. When there are people around, I like to hear what's going on and have my ears free

I use my AKG N400 TWS that I got on sale for $50. They work really well and sound fantastic for what I paid.

Come to think of it, it makes sense to use affordable IEMs or cans when on a bike, so that the loss during an accident is minimal. I know, this sounds a bit on the negative side, but accidents happen.

Just don't set it to total noise cancelling.

I have to ask, how ANC works when riding a bike? I know that it's quite brilliant on a flight, but I've never tried it on the go...

Works as in anything besides bike riding. Apple ANC just cuts off outside noise and it does that very well. Riding a bike on public road with ANC on means you're not aware of other bikes or road users, which is dangerous. You can set it to transparency mode which still let in some outside environmental sound.

Thanks, thought so. I already had several rather scary situations when even regular cans caused me trouble during a bike trip, so ANC has to be really dangerous in such circumstances, even though the tech itself is brilliant.

Yes. This is why I also don't make my phone the source. I use a cheap little $20 MP3 player with Bluetooth support for my rides. If it breaks no biggie I will buy another for $20. My phone stays secure in my Camelbak.

I think it's a credible collection of bikes (though N+1 still applies). The Trek at the end is destined for a local bike charity. The wife really tried to join me in cycling, but it wasn't her thing. The Shiv took me to third place in the Masters' division in the state Time Trial finals. So, that was nice.

Side note: I am utterly opposed to any kind of headphones when riding.

Exactly. I've been routinely using our own GO blu when riding. It's super-small and affordable, so not that big of a loss. A smartphone is a different story. It's not even about its cost, but all the content (family photos etc.) on that device.

Here's my fatbike, a Mongoose Argus. Switched out the handlebar and seat, put on Wolf Tooth silicone handlebars, side mirrors, issi pedals, kickstand, bottle holder, front and rear lights and a little travel bag in front for phone, garage door opener, sandwich and whatever else. Everything exactly like I wanted.

Very cool stuff! I always wanted to try one of them fatties, but am wondering how much would I have to trade in after ditching regular rubber.
