All great advice here, cheers! And correct on the 4.4mm note.
I was asking because I read somewhere that the 4.4 version has a more powerful balanced output than the 2.5. But maybe I'm mistaken. I could get the 2.5 used for cheaper than the 4.4 so if they have the same power I will go that route.

Its a couple hundred mw difference if I remember correctly, nothing huge.

It's about that:

Pro iDSD 4.4mm socket. (16 Ω, balanced/single-ended): >4200mW /1>1,575mW
Pro iDSD 2.5mm socket. (16 Ω, balanced/single-ended): >4000mW /1>1,500mW

@tdx:
So, my bad. I have to correct myself. Besides, i would not have thought that there would actually be differences beside the connector dimensions. But it is negligible at all.

In my modest opinion, the 4.4 Version should be the way to go. Otherwise you could buy the 2.5 Version, if it is a good offer/ cheaper and use a 2,5 to XLR adapter and ignore the 2.5 plug.

Cheers

I never found the 2.5mm version lacking in power ever. My volume levels never go above 30-40%. I am using a 2.5 mm to 4.4 mm adapter for all of my headphones.

I am using one of these on my 2.5mm version of the iDSD Pro, works great

This is correct and I was mistaken thinking they were the same as well!

The difference is indeed 200 mW.

When you're done: I would like a similar cable 3.5 mm from headphones (i.e. focal) to the 2.5 mm ifis too - where to get that if you're not an DIY person?
