The next issue is with volume adjustment for preamp mode. It is not possible to change it. In Eddict Player and in software showing the setup, I mean it is clearly visible that volume is controled softwarely, but nothing happened physicaly. This was tested on digital out only.
Hi,
It really seems the em5 ea-5 line was not fully tested before it was released.
So much trouble is not acceptable...

Yes, im tested with all sampling rate but digital output is dead when i play MQA.

Im try set Gain, but nothing happened when switch to Low\Medium or High,Turbo setting is fixed, im dont know why...

Mr Shanling, what i do wrong? What is solution?

Ok, so MQA files are not working for coaxial output on EM5. EM5 acts as an MQA decoder, so it unfolds the files to 358 kHz and that is out of the range supported by coaxial.
It is known issue for long time, unfortunately not something that our software team was able to solve due to nature how EM5 processes MQA files.

Digital output is running bit-perfect unaltered. No volume or gain setting affects it.

Well (but not well), coaxially limited, but what about optical output, because it is also without signal.

Hi,
Out of range supported by coaxial ?
Are you sure ?
I know optical connections have limitations... But never heard about those in coaxial connection.
Regards.

MQA files on EM5 undergoes 8x unfolding, with resulting file being 352.8 kHz audio stream. This high sampling rate is not supported by either Coaxial or Optical output.

Coaxial SPDIF maxes out at 24/192.

Ok

Always heard of limitations with optical connection.
Never heard of limitation with coaxial connections so I thoughts that would suffer no limitations.
But obviously I was wrong...

Regards.

Is there going to be a newer firmware for EM5 in which errors will be fixed or is this the final version already?

How many years is the support planned for this device, in which even after two years the software defects have not been removed?

The last option is if I make connecting cables from XLR to RCA and this way I will be able to hear the spare output that I will connect to the second set.

I am disappointed, because the manual does not mention such restrictions, nor was it mentioned when the ads were made.

I understood that it doesn't support it, but it just doesn't work, which is why we pay quite a lot of money. High resolution music playback. That's nonsense. Digital outputs are not limited, but deaf...

Thanks for your answers.

This is a special issue in connection to MQA playback, there is most likely no possible fix for this on our system.
For these we can only recommend to switching to Hi-Fi setting in Tidal app.

We keep supporting our oldest Android devices from 2019, so far we haven't set any limit on software updates for these devices.

Hi,

+1000

I really would like to see some real support...
I really hope to see Shanling offer decent support and listen to what customers are asking, like other manufacturers do.

I could name a device that works properly.
But it doesn't offer the same sound quality the Shanling does unfortunately :frowning2:

In these days and age, a good hardware, like Shanling does, is nothing if it's not backed-up by above average software.
I think Shanling is beginning to understand that but it will probably take some time before the learned lessons blossoms.

Meanwhile, we will have to wait and hope...

Regards.

I tried to change the quality settings, but it is not possible when connected via cable, I changed it to 16-bit via wifi, SRC 48khz, but the digital output is still muted when I play MQA.I did something wrong?

Next issue , I had with my Headpones. Error message: pairing rejected. I have Bowers & Wilkins PX

... And so?

Thank you @Shanling

Update and more detailed information about Amazon App not working on EM5 with an Amazon Prime Subscription.
The app actually works with "podcast" only.
If I try to select "music", a message appears that my app is not updated (picture enclosed).
Literally, the message translated from Italian is:
"Your app is not updated. Download the updated version to access to the most recent release of Amazon Music for Prime customers".
Once again, according to Amazon, Amazon Prime Music should work on any Android device (and actually works flawless everywhere but the EM5.
Please, double check with your software team and let me know.
I can certainly live without Amazon Prime Music, since I have Apple Music which I prefer, but I can also live without the EM5, and listen everything from any other source. I'm sure you understand.

@Shanling ,it is very annoying that the equalizer is not available for Android applications. Do something with that too. Maybe put in an application. The hardware is very good, but these crap like the digital output and going back in the menus or the equalizer, and unfortunately there are some of them, make the user tired.

I found that the equalizer works if you play music from Cloud Music in the Eddict app itself. The drawback is that you don't get full sound quality. A little compromize there.
