Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: Interesting. I didn't have any problem at all, but I think my firmware is current. I also did not have mine plugged in...just went straight into it with the USB cable and turned it on and immediately had sound to my IEMs.- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: Yes, mine works fine. The lightning to USB cable is currently only available in 19". I'm sure it won't be long before we start seeing shorter and aftermarket versions.- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: iphone 5 works just fine with Fostex HP-P1. FLAC Player app also. It seems to stream digital via the supplied USB cord. Not sure whether shorter cords are readily available at this time. Sounded great FWIW.- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: I believe Fostex is entirely restricted by their contract with Apple to use the connectivity technology that gets digital-out via the iDevice dock. This is the reason that firmware updates are limited to the manufacturer and are not available publicly, as I understand it.- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: Very good points about the HD based classic iPod vs iTouch flash memory. The one single aspect of the classic iPod that keeps me using it frequently when I do have a choice, is the very direct and simple tactile user interface that I can operate without even looking (and...- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: Is it RockBoxed? If not, how do you store/play FLAC files on it? I don't think even RockBox actually provides FLAC (native-resolution) output via the line-out dock. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. AFAIK, as has been suggested, FLAC Player on a more current iTouch/iPhone will...- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: I don't know how discriminating you are, so can't say for sure, but it does make a significant difference to my ears when compared to the amplified output straight off an iPod or from an iPod line output. I hear more detail, nuance, and better staging. YMMV. Most of the files...- jax

Quote: Huh? City of Lost Children, is great, I agree - a personal favorite. This is a film that had an $18 million budget in 1995. Directed by Jeunet and Carot (Amelie, Delicatessen, MicMacs). The effects were beautiful and other-worldly. How does this put it the category of...- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: I used ES5's with an HP-P1 and would say that it's a great combination. I also have a pair of Fisher TF10 customs and, though they do sound pretty good, when compared directly they just don't hold a candle to the fuller range and more natural presentation of the Westone. Also...- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
Quote: The HP-P1 does seem to charge the iPod when connected. I've had it bring to life an iPod that otherwise needed recharging and would not work unless charged. I plugged it into the Fostex and it came on within a minute or two of being plugged in and lasted for hours after that...- jax

Quote: Totally agree on this one (can't recall what I rated it many months ago, but I'd also recommend it). I've been vegetarian, in the past, for years at time, but am not at present. The content of this film is definitely worthy of consideration though I don't think it's necessarily...- jax

Everything Must Go, is a Ferrel movie worth watching IMHO. I'd give it an 7.5/10. Otherwise, I haven't seen anything else I've particularly enjoyed or even remember with him in it.- jax

Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread)
No, it does not come with one, but specifies you can use one. You should be able to use an AC charger with the proper DC output into a mini-USB male. My Bluetooth headset uses one that puts out 5v dc and wonder if I could use that. My charging cord looks the same as youve pictured.- jax

Is there a voltage limit if you are using an AC charger option? I'm guessing 5V output, but just thought to check. Has anyone noticed if charging off of AC is faster than via USB? Filter 1 is my preference, low gain, ES-5's.- jax

Just finished the third season of Breaking Bad. 8/10. Like being hooked on crystal meth. I had to give this series two false starts, thinking each time that I wasn't interested. Couldn't get past the premise of the subject matter. Glad I gave it a chance as it's yet another vehicle to examine...- jax
